M4 Sherman (2024)
Brickmania M4 Sherman – WWII Allied Medium Tank
About the M4 Sherman – WWII Allied Medium Tank:
Named for General W.T. Sherman who charged his Union army through the Confederacy in the American Civil War, the M4 Sherman charged across North Africa, Europe, and the Pacific in World War II. Its relatively low cost and simple production enabled the Sherman to roll off assembly lines quickly and, with 50,000 built, the reliable and rugged Sherman established Allied armored numerical superiority.
By 1944, the typical 75mm armament was effective but not dominant against German medium and heavy tanks, but what the Sherman lacked in firepower it made up for in numbers, rate of fire, speed, and durability. While ubiquitous, the Sherman was not constant and instead included numerous variations. Late war versions featured increased protection for the crew, with a welded hull and a front glacis sloped 47 degrees, giving an effective armor thickness of almost 4 inches, as well as additional armor plates welded to the sides. For added security and firepower, Shermans bristled with machine-guns, such as the MH2B and M1919. Used by all major Allies, the Sherman symbolized industrial might and led the liberating advances.
