About the James Webb Space Telescope – with Launch Vehicle:

Embarking from an Ariane 5 launch vehicle, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) took to the sky on December 25, 2021. Named after NASA’s second administrator, James E. Webb, the JWST is set to help astronomers and scientists answer difficult questions about the universe we inhabit. To answer these, the JWST uses a complete array of sensors, IR cameras, spectrograph IR cameras that reach different wavelengths, and other items. Once in orbit, roughly 932,000 miles from Earth, the JWST will begin its calibration and testing phase. Six months afterwards, high resolution images will appear (roughly June of 2022). The JWST sits at L2 (the second Lagrange point) which is a gravitationally stable point in space.

The space telescope was launched from Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana via an Ariane 5 launch vehicle. The Ariane 5 is Europe’s heavy lift spacecraft. It can take almost any satellite or other entity currently made, or being developed, into space with a high grade of accuracy and reliability. The use of a European launch vehicle and an American developed space telescope speaks to the joint effort between nations to explore the final frontier.
