Cold War Polish Soldier
Designed by United Bricks.
After World War II, Polish soldiers, loyal to their Soviet rulers, were built up into a force that would become part of the Warsaw Pact. These troops would play a key role in the second strategic line of defense against NATO forces in Central Europe. Until the fall of communism, the army increasingly lost prestige as it was deployed by the communist government to violently suppress various protests, such as the Poznań protests of 1956, the Polish protests of 1970, and the protests during the martial law period in Poland in 1981-1982. Troops of the Silesian Military District were also involved in suppressing the pro-democratization movement in Czechoslovakia in 1968, better known as the Prague Spring.
