About the Perseverance – Mars Rover:

Space exploration became even more of a reality when Perseverance landed on Mars on February 18, 2021. Launching the previous July in an Atlas V launch vehicle, Perseverance is part of a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the Red Planet. The goal of the operation is to seek signs of ancient life, collect samples of rock and other planetary geology, and, ultimately, determine if life is possible outside of Earth.

The rover itself is roughly the size of a modern automobile and was developed and manufactured by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Derived from its predecessor, Curiosity, Perseverance was better equipped to handle the alien terrain. To increase handling, Perseverance was given larger aluminum wheels with cleats attached to improve traction. For exploring the Martian terrain, Perseverance uses its seven primary payload instruments—including robotic arms—nineteen cameras, and two microphones. The Mars rover, however, did not travel 293 million miles alone. It was joined by an experimental drone helicopter named IngenuityIngenuity made the first powered flight on another planet on April 19, 2021. The end goal of Perseverance is to collect data for the eventual manned mission to Mars and the continued exploration of the Final Frontier.
